I'm not sure if I've put this in the wrong section or even if Spiceworks is supposed to be used as a peer help type website. So I apologize if that's the case.

Now on to what my actual question is. For the past 5-6 days I have been battling a Fujitsu FI-6130 document scanner.

It absolutely refuses to be recognized by the workstation that it's hard-wired to. The workstation that it's connected to is brand new (the old one was outdated and was replaced a week ago). The OS is the same as the old one (Win 7 Pro 64 bit). I've tried installing the firmware, manually connecting it (like you would a printer), and plugging it into a different USB slot. At this point I'm at a loss for ideas on what to try next since it worked on the previous machine without issue. Also, I'm not at all proficient at troubleshooting printers, scanners, or copiers so that probably doesn't help me any. I would greatly appreciate any advice/input that anyone can give me on this.

Thanks for the quick replies! Peter - Yes, I've tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0 if that's what you're asking.

I read somewhere online that the FI-6130s don't agree with 3.0. That may not be true but I tried anyway just to rule it out. The scanner and cable are both only a couple months old and both worked on the previous machine less than a day prior. OJKid - I've already installed the isis and twain drivers. I think I had the scanner connected at the time though.

Do you know how I could go about uninstalling those drivers (where they are located) so that I can try a fresh install of the scanner and software? I feel like I should mention that I work at a hospital and this issue is on the reception PC. So I can't really just wipe it and start over or I would have. Haha Sid - When I attached the USB cable I got a chime for both USB 2.0 and 3.0. I check 'Devices and Printers' and it has said unknown device each time I connect it (tried rebooting also).

As for down in the Notification Area, I did get a notification that windows failed to install the device's driver whenever I plug it in. So the hardware is seeing the scanner, which means John is correct that the driver did not install. Try just deleting those devices out of the device manager and then refreshing and see if you can get to prompt you for where the driver is. You could also try right clicking the device and trying the troubleshoot option. If all that fails, do a system restore back to before you installed anything or plugged anything in. For future reference, for USB devices, you almost always install the software first.

If you don't count the paper tray, the Fujitsu fi-4220C2 ($970 street) takes up less room on your desktop than a stack of paper. However don't puzzle it with the brand-new breed of desktop computer file scanners, like the in a similar way priced Xerox DocuMate 262, which makes file scanning a wind. The fi-4220C2's selection of bundled software program, combined with an absence of details about the best ways to use it, seems assured to leave lots of individuals frustrated while they climb up a high learning contour. Setup is fairly easy. You link the scanner by either USB or SCSI cable.

Software application installation is straightforward, however only if you run Configuration from each of the 3 discs as well as follow the on-screen guidelines, as opposed to trying to count on a complex manual that does not match exactly what you'll see on screen. The core set of programs includes Twain, WIA, and 1S1S driver, so the scanner will collaborate with just about any type of software program; Fujitsu's ScandAll 21, which lets you check directly to TIF, JPG, and also PDF formats, among other selections; as well as Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Criterion, which offers the only OCR capability in the plan, allowing you recognize message in PDF data. Additionally worth mentioning are a second scan program, called QuickScan, as well as an application called Kofax VRS (VirtualReScan) that makes unreadable scans legible, drawing out info hidden by history shading, cross-outs, as well as roaming marks.

Last and certainly the very least for software is Capio 1.1, a file administration program that is clumsy to make use of at finest. You need to import each paper right into Capio, a time-consuming job, then key in the keywords you will certainly utilize for looking for it later on. Missing from this package are a flexible Optical Character Recognition program, such as OmniPage, as well as a much more capable document management program, like PaperPort- programs that both have the DocuMate 262.

We timed the fi-4220C2 at 25 sheets per minute for scanning one side of each web page as well as 51 photos per min (ipm) for both sides, a little far better compared to it's rated, making use of 200-pixels-per-inch scans in black-and-white setting. Converting to searchable PDF style utilizing Acrobat 6.0 took a considerable 3 minutes 47 seconds for 50 text web pages. All this makes the fi-4220C2 a reasonably capable plan. But it's tough to recommend it over the DocuMate 262, which is faster, comes with a stronger option of packed software program, as well as isn't substantially extra pricey.
