HiI just want to ask if there is any way to use the.ssh/config file on Windows with msysgit installed. My problem is that I use URLs like confighost:reponame.git (we are using Gitolite on our server). In the config file I have defined hostname, user and port options. But this configuration is not working in Smartgit GUI. It just responds with 'host cannot be found'. I have found a workaround using ssh://gitolite@serverdomainname:port/reponame, but it is not an ideal solution. When invoking git ls-remote htpcadmin:testing on command line, Git will ask you for the private key. When SmartGit invokes this command, Git/SSH does not print anything but just waits on input - which SmartGit obviously cannot detect.

The built-in SSH client does not support SSH aliases defined in /.ssh/config. I recommend to clone using explicit URLs using the built-in SSH client, e.g.

I would like to make a feature request that SmartGit fully support the use of the cygwin/git bash.ssh/config file.

Windows Git Ssh Config File

The.ssh/config file is a very convenient and centralized location for managing ssh connection information. It works great with git bash and its suite of ssh tools for creating and managing ssh key pairs (ssh-keygen, ssh-agent ssh-add). I don't think pageant is as flexible. It doesn't support aliases, doesn't have a simple centralized config file and its gui is a bit awkward to grok and use. Config

I'd like to formally request a feature enhancement that SmartGit support the cygwin/git bash ssh config file. The.ssh config file provides an extremely simple and centralized mechanism for manaing ssh configurations. It supports host aliases and port definitions which makes the ssh url much more convenient and simpler to maintain. We've used putty, but it is not as flexible configuration wise. It's gui tools are also a like awkward to grok and use. Definitely not intuitive. If you support the.ssh config file in linux, why wouldn't you support it on the windows platform as well?

I've been looking for a solution on how I can use multiple ssh keys and I figured out, that it will work with a config file in the.ssh directory, but it doesn't work on windows. My problem is that I'm using a private key to access a git server, so it looks like this: ssh://git@example.com/directory, it works fine when I'm using TortoiseGit, 'cause there is a possibility to choose the private key. But I want to use the git rep in my IntelliJ IDEA and there is just the option to use the git native shell and it also works, if I put the key, called idrsa, into the.ssh folder. Now I want to use multiple ssh keys (so my key will get the name 'idrsatest', so how do I configure the.ssh/config file under Windows, that it works with a usual git server? The most examples I found yet are just for the use with github.
